Bus
Primary school pupils may travel without a companion.
However, pre-schoolers must be accompanied by a companion aged 14 or over for the full duration of the journey. Companions under the age of 18 may accompany and have responsibility for up to two children under the age of 10. Children under age six travel free of charge.

Is your child ready to travel alone?
As a parent/guardian, you are the one who best knows your child’s limitations and ability to cope with unexpected events. As such, the child’s age alone is not always sufficient to determine whether the child is suited to travel alone or supervise another child during the journey. It’s a good idea to accompany your child on the same route before he/she embarks on the journey alone. We recommend you advise your child to ask the crew for help if they are unsure of something.
If your child travels alone, you must ensure he/she can find their way and get off at the correct stop or quay.
As a parent, you cannot assume that the crew on board express boats, ferries or bus drivers will always be able to take on parental/guardian responsibility for your child while he/she is travelling alone.
However, if the carrier has accepted such a role, the child must carry a completed “Travelling alone form” stating his/her name and contact details. The form must be signed by both the parent/guardian and the carrier. The document must be placed in a “Travelling alone folder”, which the child must have clearly visible during the journey.
